| Project C 2 - Model description |
| PLATHO (PLAnts as Tree and Herb Objects) |
|
PLATHO simulates allocation of C and N in woody and herbaceous plants by means of a single generic modelling approach
Recognizing the general processes common to all SFB 607 plants, plant species are considered as functionally and structurally equivalent special cases of the class of plants
PLATHO considers physiological processes with high time resolution and integrates dynamic physiological properties up to single plants
Plant internal physiological processes are governed by external abiotic and biotic factors (e.g. CO2, O3, pathogenes)
Several interacting plant individuals can be computed simultaneously to simulate inter- and intraspecific competition. Plant individuals can differ in start values of state variables and ecophysiological parameters
The simulation program is organized highly modular. Thus, single components of the model can be included, omitted or substituted to test working hypotheses
PLATHO is implemented and embedded in the modeling system Expert-N . The programming language is C.
Different modules relating to soil processes (transport, turnover) are available in Expert-N and can be linked to PLATHO.
