Project A 7
Description
Work of A7 within the SFB 607:

Within the framework of SFB 607 the project A7 focuses on the central hypothesis "Growth and Parasite Defense". In phase I it could be shown that with an elevated CO2 concentration leaf resistance of suspectible potato cultivars towards Phytophthora infestans decreased. In the second phase of the SFB investigations will concentrate on potato only, since it exhibited a substantial decrease in susceptibility against late blight under elevated CO2- concentrations. It is planned to verify the results of the studies conducted in climate chambers with greenhouse experiments and in the field. The effect of different CO2- and N- treatments on biomass production and on susceptibility of potato plants will be evaluated with conventional methods of phytopathology as well as with methods of biochemistry and molecular biology.

Aims:

Elucidation of general mechanisms of resistance in infected potato leaves.

Elucidation of CO2-induced mechanisms of resistance in infected potato plants.

Determination of N-influence on CO2-induced resistance in infected potato plants.

Determination of N-influence combined with elevated CO2-treatments on resistance of potato plants against Alternaria solani.
